Our annual Father's Day picnic is coming up!

Date: June 20 (Sunday) 11:00am - 3:00pm.
Location: shelter #2 in Highland Park in Endwell
Please bring your favorite dishes to share with one another (enough food for your family). If you do not bring food, the prices are as follows:
$4 for people who are 10 and older
$2 for kids between 3 and 10
free for kids under 3

At the picnic, you will also have a chance to renew your membership. our current membership fee: Family $30; Individual $15; Student: $10.

We will also cast our votes to elect next year's board members. A call for nomination was sent out in May.

Fund Raiser for ACA Victims Memorial Park

Families of the victims of the American Civic Association shooting incident and the city of Binghamton are working together to build a memorial park. To help with their efforts, STCCA would like to call on all members of our Chinese community to contribute to this cause by making donations. Please go to our Google Group page for details.

Year of the Tiger Celebrated

Southern Tier Chinese and Vestal Middle School students jointly celebrated the Year of the Tiger on February 13, 2010, a first-ever joint event to be organized by STCCA and the Vestal School District. The celebration kicked off with a Chinese paper cutting workshop and Chinese dumpling making demonstration, followed by dinner and performances in the school's auditorium. On Sunday February 14, Professor Hong Zhang and Pej Reitz of BU presented a concert of chinese music - “Song of Silk,” as part of the community’s Chinese New Year celebration.

Chinese New Year Party on Feb 13

STCCA will have its annual celebration of the Chinese New Year on Feb 13, 2010. This year, the party will be held in the beautiful Vestal Middle School auditorium and cafeteria.

The party will include dinner, performances, games, and prizes. People from the Vestal school district (i.e., some students, parents, and staff) will also join us to witness and celebrate this traditional festival.

Details:

When: Feb 13, 2010, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Saturday).

Where: Vestal Middle School/African Road Elementary, 600 South Benita Boulevard, Vestal, NY 13850. For directions, click this link

How: We encourage you to dress up in traditional Chinese clothes, or other formal clothing of your choice. We expect everyone to come to the party on time in order to better serve everyone as scheduled.

Fees:

Members: free, if you bring food (enough food for your family); if you do not bring food, the fee is $4 per adult and $2 per child (aged 6 and older).

Non-members: if you bring food (enough food for your family), the fee is $4 per adult and $2 per child (aged 6 and older); if you do not bring food, the fee is $7 per adult and $4 per child (aged 6 and older).

Non-member students (aged 6 and older): $4.

All children under 6: free.

Grand Opening for Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera had its grand opening celebration in BU’s Anderson Center. The festivities included an opera performance by a troupe from China’s prestigious National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts (NACTA). Jointly formed by Binghamton University and NACTA, and sponsored by the Confucius Institute headquarters in Beijing, the Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera at Binghamton University is expected to further international education and cultural ties with China.
